Packaging Artwork Safely: A Step by Step Tutorial

Let's be real: Shipping is one of the less glamorous parts of running an online art business. There's a lot that goes into making sure your beautiful artwork makes it from your studio to its final destination safely. In addition to packaging it so it stays damage-free, it's also important it still looks presentable to your collectors when they open it- it's all part of your Artist Brand! 

To ensure each piece of art arrives beautifully and safely, here are 7 steps to take when packing your artwork:

1. Use Protective Paper

Whether this is Glassine Paper or Kraft Paper, wrapping your art with this protective layer keeps your art from being scratched or damaged by other materials in the box. 

2. Wrap in Bubble Wrap

Similar to the protective paper, adding bubble wrap gives your art an extra layer of protection from any harm.

3. Add Finishing Touches

Maybe one of our favorite parts of the shipping process- the finishing touches! These are the small details that make such a difference for your collectors. Adding a ribbon or custom stationary like a Thank You note in with each piece elevates your art and shows your collectors you care about them!

4. Protect with Packing Paper or Packing Peanuts

Add cushioning around every side of your art to protect it from any potential damage that could occur during the shipping process.

5. Seal with Packing Tape

After your artwork is tucked securely in its box, seal the box up with packing tape. Don't be afraid to use a lot!

6. Elevate with Custom Tape

Once your packing tape is secured, go the extra mile and add a strip of custom tape with your name or logo. This is another small detail that takes your brand to the next level!

7. Place the Shipping Label 

Now that your box is ready to go, place the shipping label on and you're done!
